Blue sapphire of bright, pure blue hue is valuable. Dull and pale blue colored gemstones are cheap and not recommended for astrological purposes. Ideally, the sapphire’s color should be ‘true blue’ with a benchmark of ‘cornflower blue’ i.e. without any secondary tinge of purple or violet.

There is no need to opt for a blue sapphire that is 1/10th of one’s body weight as is sometimes suggested.
